The UN Youth Climate Summit is a platform for young leaders who are driving climate action to showcase their solutions at the United Nations, and to meaningfully engage with decision-makers on the defining issue of our time.

This historic event will take place on Saturday, September 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as part of a weekend of events leading up to the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit on Monday, September 23.

The Youth Climate Summit will feature a full-day of programming that brings together young activists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who are committed to combating climate change at the pace and scale needed to meet the challenge. It will be action oriented, intergenerational, and inclusive, with equal representation of young leaders from all walks of life.

O XVIII Encontro da SBPMat/B-MRS Meeting será realizado de 22 a 26 de setembro de 2019, no Balneário Camboriú (SC), no Hotel Sibara Flat & Convenções, e será coordenado pelos professores Ivan H. Bechtold e Hugo Gallardo, ambos da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC).

Os simpósios temáticos, propostos e organizados por membros da comunidade científica, são o eixo principal da programação dos eventos anuais da SBPMat, conhecidos como B-MRS Meetings. O encontro de 2018, realizado em Natal (RN), contou com 21 simpósios, os quais tiveram mais de 1.600 trabalhos aprovados para apresentação em sessões orais e de pôster. Os temas abordados nos simpósios abrangeram o desenvolvimento, fabricação e caracterização de diversos tipos de materiais (nanomateriais, polímeros condutores, metais avançados, compósitos, óxidos metálicos, eletrocerâmicas, biomateriais, superfícies, revestimentos) e suas aplicações em segmentos como energia, aeroespacial, saúde, eletrônica, bioeletrônica, fotônica, automotivo e decorativo. Mais de 1.100 profissionais e estudantes participaram desta edição do evento.

Global emissions are reaching record levels and show no sign of peaking. The last four years were the four hottest on record, and winter temperatures in the Arctic have risen by 3°C since 1990. Sea levels are rising, coral reefs are dying, and we are starting to see the life-threatening impact of climate change on health, through air pollution, heatwaves and risks to food security.

The impacts of climate change are being felt everywhere and are having very real consequences on people’s lives. Climate change is disrupting national economies, costing us dearly today and even more tomorrow. But there is a growing recognition that affordable, scalable solutions are available now that will enable us all to leapfrog to cleaner, more resilient economies.

The latest analysis shows that if we act now, we can reduce carbon emissions within 12 years and hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C and even, as asked by the latest science, to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Thankfully, we have the Paris Agreement – a visionary, viable, forward-looking policy framework that sets out exactly what needs to be done to stop climate disruption and reverse its impact. But the agreement itself is meaningless without ambitious action.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres is calling on all leaders to come to New York on 23 September with concrete, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent over the next decade, and to net zero emissions by 2050.

Os ministros da Agricultura dos países que compõem o Brics se reunirão nos próximos dias 25 e 26 de setembro em Bonito, principal cidade turística da região da Serra da Bodoquena, em Mato Grosso do Sul. O grupo formado por Brasil, Rússia, Índia, China e África do Sul representa 40% da população mundial e 25% do PIB global.

Esta é a 9ª Reunião dos Ministros da Agricultura do Brics e terá como tema a inovação tecnológica na agropecuária no contexto de aumento da população mundial e da demanda por alimentos. Os ministros debaterão questões relacionadas à segurança alimentar e sustentabilidade ambiental em âmbito regional e global.

O objetivo do encontro é fortalecer a cooperação entre os membros do grupo para cumprir as metas da Agenda 2030 para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Os ministros discutirão estratégias para melhorar a infraestrutura e a conectividade em diferentes cadeias da agropecuária, incorporando tecnologias que geram desenvolvimento e benefícios econômicos.
